Whitley County is located in Northeastern Indiana, bordered on the north by Noble County, to the east by Allen County, to the south by Huntington County, to the southwest by Wabash County, and to the west by Kosciusko County.
It has an area of 336 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 30,707 residents.
Columbia City (2000 Census population of 7,077) is both the largest city in Whitley County and the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include South Whitley (1,782), Churubusco (1,666), and Larwill (282).
The county was named for Colonel William Whitley, known mostly for fighting Native Americans.
Notable natives include the writer Lloyd Cassel Douglas and Ralph Gates, the 37th Governor of Indiana. Both were born in Columbia City.
