Wayne County is located in eastern Indiana, bordered on the north by Randolph County, to the east by Ohio, to the south by Fayette and Union counties, and to the west by Henry County.
It has an area of 404 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 71,097 residents.
Richmond (2000 Census population of 39,124) is both the largest city in Wayne County and the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include Centerville (2,427), Cambridge City (2,121), Hagerstown (1,768), Fountain City (735), Dublin (697), Milton (611), Spring Grove (386), Greens Fork (371), East Germantown (243), Economy (200), Boston (177), and Whitewater (78).
The county was named for General "Mad Anthony" Wayne, for whom Fort Wayne is also named.
Notable natives include composer Ned Rorem, football coach Weeb Eubank, and painter Randolph Coats.
