    Counties: Tippecanoe County Indiana


Tippecanoe County is located in northwestern Indiana, bordered on the north by White County, to the northeast by Carroll County, to the east by Clinton County, to the south by Montgomery County, and to the west by Benton, Fountain, and Warren counties.

It has an area of 500 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 148,955 residents.

Lafayette (2000 Census population of 56,397) is both the largest city in Tippecanoe County and the County Seat.

Other cities and towns include West Lafayette (28,778), Shadeland (1,682), Battle Ground (1,323), Dayton (1,120), and Clarks Hill (680).

The county was named for the Tippecanoe River and the Battle of Tippecanoe.

Notable natives include film producer Sydney Pollack, 10-time Olympic gold medalist Ray Ewry, professional wrestler Richard "Dick the Bruiser" Afflis, rock singers William "Axl Rose" Bailey, Shannon Hoon, and Harry Leslie, the 33rd Governor of Indiana.
