Switzerland County is located in extreme southeastern Indiana, bordered on the northwest by Ripley County, to the north by Ohio County, to the east and south by Kentucky, and to the west by Jefferson County.
It has an area of 221 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 9,065 residents.
Vevay (2000 Census population of 1,735) is both the largest city in Switzerland County and the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include Patriot (202).
The county was named for the European country.
Notable natives include Elwood Mead, who was Chief of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. Lake Mead is named after him.
