Scott County is located in southern Indiana, bordered on the north by Jackson and Jennings counties, to the east by Jefferson County, to the south by Clark County, and to the west by Washington County.
It has an area of 190 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 22,960 residents.
Scottsburg (2000 Census population of 6,040) is both the largest city in Scott County and the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include Austin (4,724).
The county was named for Kentucky Governor General Charles Scott.
