Ohio County is located in southeastern Indiana, bordered on the north by Dearborn County, to the east by Kentucky, to the south by Switzerland County, and in the far west by Ripley County.
It has an area of 87 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 5,624 residents.
Rising Sun (2000 Census population of 2,470) is both the largest city in Ohio County and the County Seat.
The county was named for the Ohio River.
