Montgomery County is located in western Indiana, bordered on the north by Tippecanoe County, to the northeast by Clinton County, to the east by Boone County, to the southeast by Hendricks County, to the south by Putnam County, to the southwest by Parke County, and to the west by Fountain County.
It has an area of 505 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 37,629 residents.
Crawfordsville (2000 Census population of 15,243) is both the largest city in Montgomery County and the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include Ladoga (1,047), Waynetown (909), Darlington (854), Linden (700), New Market (659), Waveland (416), New Richmond (349), New Ross (334), Wingate (299), and Alamo (137).
The county was named for Revolutionary War General Richard Montgomery.
Notable natives include James Mount, the 24th Governor of Indiana.
