Grant County is located in central Indiana, bordered on the north by Huntington and Wabash counties, to the east by Blackford and Wells counties, to the south by Delaware and Madison counties, to the southwest by Tipton County, and to the west by Howard and Miami counties.
It has an area of 414 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 73,403 residents.
Marion (2000 Census population of 31,320) is both the largest city in Grant County and the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include Gas City (5,940), Upland (3,803), Fairmount (2,992), Jonesboro (1,887), Swayzee (1,011), Van Buren (935), Sweetser (906), Matthews (595), and Fowlerton (298).
The county was named for two brothers, Samuel and Moses Grant, who were killed by Indians in southern Indiana during the late 1700s.
Notable natives include the actor James Dean and cartoonist Jim Davis (Garfield)
