    Counties: DeKalb County Indiana


DeKalb County is located in northeastern Indiana, bordered on the north by Steuben County, to the east by Ohio, to the south by Allen County, and to the west by Noble County.

It has an area of 363 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 40,285 residents.

Auburn (2000 Census population of 12,074) is both the largest city in DeKalb County and the County Seat.

Other cities and towns include Garrett (5,803), Butler (2,725), Waterloo (2,200), Ashley (1,010), St. Joe (478), Corunna (254), and Altona (198).

The county was named for General Johann De Kalb, who served in the Revolutionary War.
