Benton County is located in northwestern Indiana, bordered on the north by Jasper and Newton counties, to the east by White County, to the southeast by Tippecanoe County, to the south by Warren County, and to the west by Illinois.
It has an area of 406 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 9,421 residents.
Fowler (2000 Census population of 2,415) is both the largest city in Benton County and the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include Otterbein (1,312), Oxford (1,271), Boswell (827), Earl Park (485), and Ambia (197).
The county was named for Thomas Hart Benton of Missouri.
